Introduction to Publisher 2007

In a relaxed and enjoyable class, you can learn the basic skills required to work with Publisher, from which you can produce an assortment of quality publications such as business and gift cards, greeting cards with matching envelopes, calendars, bookmarks, flyers, brochures, newsletters and any project of your choice. Learn how to use the pre-designed templates as well as produce your own templates and designs. You also learn how to save your own templates and publications into appropriate folders on the computer and USB memory sticks and to print labels and envelopes. The skills learnt in this class can also be applied to other programmes, eg Microsoft Word and Power Point.
Exploring Word 2007

This course is designed to follow on from the Computing Basics class level. If you wish to learn
more about Word Processing and be able to create colourful documents (without having to purchase
Publisher), this may be just the course for you. Explore in detail the content of Word 2007 and learn
about page set-ups, design your own documents and templates (and work with on-line templates);
manage files and folders. Work with pictures, clip art and your very own photos while producing letters,
newsletters, brochures, cards, bookmarks, tables, etc. Learn how to print envelopes and address labels
and do mail merge using your address lists. Come and extend your skills whilst having fun exploring the
endless applications possible with Word 2007.
Everything Mac

This course is suitable for all levels of user. It covers System Preferences, The Finder, the included Applications and the additional open source programs (GIMP and OpenOffice). The fully integrated iLife suite will be covered and a DVD will be produced for playing on a TV. There are four Mac Mini's available but laptop users and their computer are welcome. The course content will depend upon the skills of the students and their interests.
Computing Basics

This course is designed for those who have some basic computing experience, but want to expand their knowledge, update, or refresh what they may have forgotten. The content caters for Beginners onwards to give you the essentials to enjoy the other courses that are available. As well as the Tutor, there are assistants who can help by answering your questions and help you progress at your own speed. If your questions cannot be answered in class, you will be directed to someone who can assist you. Lesson notes are available for systems using Windows 7 and for the Microsoft Office 2007 programmes.
Topics covered include basic mouse skills; managing, using and personalizing the desktop,
exploring the start menu content & how to use it. Learn the keyboard components and
how to use your keyboard to move around your document, select and format text and add
numbers. Also learn to create and save documents using Word 2007 / 2010 and organize
files into appropriate folders. You also learn how to save your work onto a USB memory stick.
Instruction is give on working with tables – creating an Address Book; copying from one window
to another and basic computer maintenance. Laptops are welcome (conditions apply).
Email and Internet

In this class you will learn how to compose, send and receive e-mails, how to create an address book
and how to add contacts from incoming emails. You will also learn how to create folders into which
to save your sent and received emails. Instruction will be given on how to send and receive e-mail
attachments including the sending and receiving of photos and how to save them into the desired folder.
Basic instructions will also be given on using the internet to research the topics of your interest.
You will also learn some basic skills, like setting your home page, using favourites, copying, printing
and saving web pages.
Photo Manipulation with Picasa and Windows Live Photo Gallery

Picasa is a free application from the Google company that allows for the management and improvement of your digital photo collection.
Windows Live Photo Gallery is a program with similar features to Picasa and will follow Picasa to allow users to compare the two and decide which one would suit best for his/her situation.
They are both relatively easy to use, allowing for different wasy to display your photographic genius and they can also help improve those photos that have escaped your genius. From brightening those hazy photos to bringing to life old, original prints these are two courses for anyone with a camera.
Each course can be taken seperately if you desire.
At the end of these two courses you will be a more advanced user and we will be using the photos to make DVD movies. See third level courses for more detail.
Email and Internet

Learn how to setup your email account, backup up your account details and how to add and or, remove email accounts. You will also learn how to create folders into which to save your sent and received emails. Learn how to send and receive e-mail attachments including the sending and receiving of photos and how and where to save them onto your computer. Learn the difference between web email accounts and how to set one up. Learn how to use the Internet to research the topics of your interest. You will also learn some basic skills, like setting your home page, set up and using favourites, copying, printing and saving web pages. You will learn some basic internet and email rules for you to help guard against unwanted intruders and viruses. You will be learning using the Windows Live Mail and Microsoft Outlook 2007 email browser systems, but the skills learned relate to any email and internet browser system.
Introduction to Microsoft Office 2007

These courses are for those who have some knowledge of basic computing and they entail the setting up, configuring and use of MS Office Word, MS Office PowerPoint, MS Office Publisher, MS Office Outlook, MS Excel, etc. The Microsoft Office 2007 suite is a very larger leap forward from previous Office suites like MS Office 2003 and this course will show you how to gain the use of the many improvements and effects. You will learn how the "Tab" system works, the special picture effects, plus much more. Learn how to create slide show presentations using MS Office PowerPoint, also how to retrieve those beautiful photographs from PowerPoint shows. Create your own Letterhead Template, Business Cards Bookmark, etc and much more. The skills learnt with this course are very easily transferable, if not the same to the just released MS Office 2010, which the Computer Club plans to be using later into 2011.

The internet can be daunting for early users. These lessons are available for those who wish to have an unstructured look at the possibilities that the net provides. If you would like to know about a particular internet application such as Internet Explorer, YouTube, Facebook or Skype or need assistance with searching just come along and talk to the resident experts. If you need help with your
laptop, the tutors are happy to help here as well.

documents and their computers when connected to
the Internet. Learn methods to protect your computer and preserve your documents and traps to
avoid when using the net. How safe is it to send your personal details over
the internet? Do you want to use internet banking
or pay bills using the internet? What about your home internet setup, is it safe, can it be hacked?
If you have a topic you would like taught you can request a one off special for things such as Facebook, Skype, Virus checking, YouTube, internet searching techniques, file organisation etc. if you're having trouble here or have a need, there are bound to be others interested as well.
